H1N1 - General Info

Over the past fortnight we have meet twice with representatives of The Ministry of Education, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, to discuss best practice to help prevent the spread of the N1N1 virus.

As a follow on from our meetings the following practice has been implemented at The Children's Academy:

  • All staff have attended a meeting addressing the issues, been reminded of good hygiene practice and received detailed training on correct hand washing procedures.
  • Staff have also been monitored whilst at school over the past week and will continue to be monitored closely.
  • The Children's Academy has installed more hand sanitizers around the school and a bulk supply of tissues are on hand.
  • We have a Thermo-flash thermometer which will record body temperature without having contact with the child/adult. All adults/children /visitors who enter the school will have their temperature taken. Can we please ask for your understanding and patience whilst we take undertake this procedure (daily in the school hall).
  • Children who have a temperature at or above 37.8 degrees will be sent home.
  • During the school day, if there is any concern regarding a child they will be referred to the school nurse and if they are found to have a high temperature they will be moved to an isolation room. The child's parents will be telephoned, immediately, so they can arrange to take the child to the nearest clinic.
  • Any staff member displaying a high temperature or N1H1 symptoms will be referred to a doctor immediately.

The Children's Academy is unlikely to be asked to close in the event of a single case. Each case will be considered separately by government authorities.

We also ask for your assistance by observing the following practice at home:

It is always important to keep a child at home when they are obviously unwell or suffering from a contagious condition but in the current situation it is even more important to observe this practice.

If your child has been in contact with a confirmed H1N1 case in the previous seven days

OR

Has two or more of the following symptoms

  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Runny nose
  • Limb or joint pain
  • Fatigue (extreme tiredness)
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea

Then as well as keeping your child away from school, you should also phone your doctor; they will be responsible for following procedures set out by Kingdom of Bahrain's Ministry of Health.

REMEMBER

  • DO NOT SEND SICK CHILDREN TO SCHOOL
  • DO NOT (AT ANY TIME) SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF THEY HAVE A TEMPERATURE OF 37.8 OR ABOVE.
